Mr. T goes from gold to green!

MR. T GOES FROM GOLD TO GREEN

Publisher Mohawk Media has launched its Mr. T series through its range of environmentally-friendly, paperless Eco Comics.

Mr. T joins other famous names at Eco Comics including Dracula, Robin Hood, Dick Turpin, and Tough Guy.

The Hollywood hard man, renowned for his image of Mohawk haircut, gold chains and catchphrases, previously appeared in print in the publisher’s graphic novels.

Editor Stuart Buckley says: “It was always our intention to release the Mr. T graphic novel as a comic book series. Each chapter was intentionally structured to be the same length as a comic book.

“However, we’ve had to adjust to market demands. The graphic novel has sold out. The digital titles of Eco Comics have no print run, and so will never sell out, meaning every T fan can order a copy. The added satisfaction is that the environment hasn’t suffered as a result of paper production.

“The clean cut art of JL Czerniawski makes this series a joy to behold in any format.”

“This is great, and I am truly humbled,” is how Mr. T describes becoming the star of a comic book in the foreword. And in the world exclusive interviews throughout the series, he goes further, including stating why he is an even tougher comic book hero than Wolverine.

Series writer Chris Bunting adds: “I’ve gone to great lengths to do things never attempted, such as making T as close to a super hero as possible while retaining his classic persona. After over twenty-five years of fame, this action icon finally gets a rogues’ gallery, and even a new catchphrase. Old and new T fans can expect plenty of other surprises too.

“Plus the amazing formats offered by Eco Comics really help bring this classic character into the digital age.”

The first five issues of Mr. T are available to order now in various digital formats via the Eco Comics store: www.mohawkmedia.co.uk/ecocomics The US dollar cover price is 0.99 for the first issue, and 1.95 for subsequent issues.

Trimpe does some Tough talking

Jazma Online talks to art legend Herb Trimpe – including about his work on Mohawk Media’s new graphic novel, TOUGH GUY!

Herb is known for his work on the Hulk, arguably defining the public image of the character more than any artist. It was during this run that Wolverine made his first ever appearance. Herb’s time at Marvel saw him illustrate the writings of Stan Lee, and with writer Chris Claremont, Trimpe created Captain Britain.

FAMOUS GUEST STARS FOR DRACULA VS. ROBIN HOOD VS. JEKYLL & HYDE

Publisher Mohawk Media has today released the second issue of its new title, Dracula vs. Robin Hood vs. Jekyll & Hyde.

Not content with the title’s legendary headliners, the publisher is promising several surprise guest stars.

British writer Chris Bunting says: “The second issue features not one, but two tyrants from the pages of history. Each will play a major role in the future of this series.

“Plus, a long forgotten character from the Robin Hood legend will make an overdue comeback.

“This flows directly into the ethos of this comic book: to give readers a thrilling ride through a clash of cultural titans. Expect twists and turns – including unexpected guest stars throughout the series.”

Released via the publisher’s paperless Eco Comics range, editor Stuart Buckley explains: “This digital comic book isn’t some rough and ready webcomic. It is, for all intents and purposes, a top quality print comic book in everything but its physical format. In fact, it knocks spots off most print comic books.

“The mission statement of Mohawk Media is to produce stories that are more concerned with being entertaining than edgy. We believe that writer Chris Bunting and artist JL Czerniawski are future stars, and they’re showing exactly why with this series.”

DEFINING HULK AND WOLVERINE ARTIST UNLEASHES TOUGH GUY

BRITISH PUBLISHER TEAMS UP WITH AMERICAN ART LEGEND, HERB TRIMPE

Publisher Mohawk Media has today released a graphic novel featuring all-new action hero, Tough Guy.

The British team of writer Chris Bunting and artist Steve Beckett is joined by American art legend Herb Trimpe.

Writer Chris Bunting says: “The comic book world was in dire need of a true all-ages character. Enter Tough Guy. While he has to contend with a modern threat in the form of a terrorist organisation, he still has one foot in the past, when comic books were more concerned with entertaining than being edgy.

“There isn’t an artist more qualified to illustrate the cover than Herb Trimpe, whose art has graced some of the most entertaining comic books. Like the eponymous character, Herb Trimpe’s art pulls no punches.”

Herb Trimpe brought Wolverine into the comic book world, while his work on the Hulk has helped define the lasting public perception of the character. Having drawn a veritable who’s who of famous characters, Trimpe is no stranger to the UK, having helped create Captain Britain.

Herb Trimpe says: “I’m hoping Tough Guy leaves an impression on the fans even more so than Captain Britain – a character I judged to be not long lasting. So much for my judgement. I have had many requests for Captain Britain commissions, and I happily await my first request for a drawing of Tough Guy – a sure sign that he is on his way to occupy a place in the Comic Book Hall of Fame.”

The Tough Guy 42-page graphic novel is available exclusively via the publisher’s groundbreaking line of paperless Eco Comics. It is available in various digital formats via www.mohawkmedia.co.uk/ecocomics for $2.99 (approx £1.90).
The graphic novel is also available to download as three individual comic book issues, each with a cover by regular series artist, Steve Beckett. Each issue has a cover price of $1.95.

  • ABOUT THE ARTISTS & WRITER:

Herb Trimpe has drawn major names including Spider-Man, Captain America, The Avengers, Fantastic Four, Iron Man, and Thor. He has also drawn Indiana Jones, Transformers, Godzilla, Star Wars, and a cover for Rolling Stone magazine.
His time at Marvel saw him illustrate the writings of Stan Lee, and with writer Chris Claremont, Trimpe created Captain Britain.
He is perhaps best known for his seven-year run on the Incredible Hulk. It was during this that Wolverine (of the X-Men) made his first ever appearance.
Trimpe’s unique style has arguably helped define the public image of the Hulk more than any other artist. This was, in part, due to his illustrations of the character adorning much of the merchandise released throughout the 1970s and 1980s.
Trimpe’s contribution to, and advancement of, the comic book, like the wealth of characters that he helped create, is far too vast to be summarised here.

During his brief time in the comic book industry, writer Chris Bunting has already become widely known for licensed properties, original properties, and literary adaptations. Recently launched titles include Dick Turpin and Dracula vs. Robin Hood vs. Jekyll & Hyde.

Following Tough Guy, artist Steve Beckett has gone on to create and produce a number of new regular strips for iconic British comic, The Dandy, while also working on some of its classic characters. He additionally provides stories for the Beano Annual and Dandy Annual.

PRESS RELEASE

Tuesday 22 November 2011

DICK TURPIN, THE LEGENDARY LAWBREAKER, COMES TO COMICS!

Publisher Mohawk Media has today announced the release of a preview issue of its upcoming project, starring history’s most notorious masked highwayman, Dick Turpin.

This issue is available exclusively via the publisher’s groundbreaking line of paperless Eco Comics.

Writer Chris Bunting says: “It’s every writer’s dream to write such a famous, or should I say, infamous character as Dick Turpin. His multi-layered, unpredictable nature makes for great drama. Expect some startling revelations about the life of this legendary lawbreaker.

“Turpin lived at a time when England was more like the Wild West, and criminals faced the death penalty at the gallows. Highwaymen led a very exciting life but often a very short one.

“This 18th Century swashbuckling firebrand was born to be a 21st Century complex comic book character. Dick Turpin’s return is a case of perfect timing.”

The digital and paperless Dick Turpin: Pencil-Only Preview features pencil-art from the first instalment of the upcoming title.

Editor Stuart Buckley explains: “This format allows the reader the opportunity to see Dick Turpin ride again in the untouched, gorgeous art of Salvador Velázquez.

“The creative team gives us a taste of what is to come: forget stuffy historical fiction, this is a comic book cocktail of action-adventure and mystery-thriller featuring one of Britain’s, if not the world’s, most recognisable rogues.

“With his mask and famous steed, Turpin has been the archetype for many highwaymen and outlaws: even the Lone Ranger bears remarkable parallels.”

Dick Turpin: Pencil-Only Preview is a 16-page issue featuring lettered pencil art only, and is available now in various digital formats via the Eco Comics store: www.mohawkmedia.co.uk/ecocomics for $1.95 (approximately £1.20).

Further details on the Dick Turpin project are due to be announced.

DRACULA, ROBIN HOOD AND JEKYLL & HYDE SET TO DO BATTLE

CLASSIC CHARACTERS CLASH IN COMIC BOOK

Publisher Mohawk Media has today released the first issue of its digital comic book series, Dracula vs. Robin Hood vs. Jekyll & Hyde.

Dracula vs. Robin Hood vs. Jekyll & Hyde is written by Chris Bunting and illustrated by JL Czerniawski, who previously collaborated on the publisher’s Mr. T graphic novels.

Bunting says: “I’ve already written a few famous faces, but this is something extra special: bringing a number of world-famous characters together for the ultimate showdown.

“My other goal was to redress the mistreatment these characters have so often received. Robin Hood isn’t portrayed here as the gallant hero he obviously never was, and Dracula is closer in tone to the original than perhaps ever before.

“As for Jekyll and Hyde, he was the main inspiration for the Hulk. Because of this, it never felt right that Hulk was always portrayed as bigger and stronger… until now.

“But this isn’t just a horror tale, despite the Halloween launch of issue #1. It’s full of supernatural, sci-fi, superheroics – and good old-fashioned scraps.

“It’s a clash of genres as much as it is a clash of the characters who embody and represent those genres.”

Editor Stuart Buckley adds: “It feels right for a British writer to bring these British-born legends together through a British publisher. The characters’ quintessential ‘Britishness’ won’t be lost in translation as it so often has been in the past.

“As a result, we expect this series to have major global appeal. The first issue is ready to download worldwide now.

“Like many readers, we miss the days when a clash between the likes of Thing and Hulk generated far more interest than publicity stunts which seem to get in the way of solid storytelling, like ‘killing off’ the hero. We hope to bring that kind of excitement back.”

Dracula vs. Robin Hood vs. Jekyll & Hyde will initially be a three issue series available monthly exclusively via the publisher’s groundbreaking line of ECO COMICS, with further instalments of the series to be announced.

It is expected to usher in a “versus” range of titles from the publisher.

Dracula vs. Robin Hood vs. Jekyll & Hyde #1 is a twenty-page issue, and is available to order now in various digital formats via the Eco Comics store: www.mohawkmedia.co.uk/ecocomics for $1.95 (approximately £1.20).

Eco Comics plants an environmentally-friendly comic book evolution

Publisher Mohawk Media has today announced that its Eco Comics range – paperless comic books and graphic novels designed with the specific purpose of having a minimal carbon footprint – is now available via digital comic book platform Graphicly, creating what it anticipates will be an evolutionary explosion for the comic book.

Graphicly will carry Eco Comics titles Heroic High, Supplanter, Pirate Queen, and more, via www.mohawkmedia.co.uk/ecocomics
Graphicly’s digital comic platform includes applications to allow the purchasing and reading of digital comic books for PC and Mac desktops, and mobile phone and tablet platforms on Android, iPhone and iPad.

Eco Comics titles are available worldwide to download or view online.

Editor Stuart Buckley says: “Paper production, even via sustainable forestry, can have a disastrous effect on the environment and wildlife. Combining Eco Comics’ outlook with the digital direction of the Graphicly platform is more than a turning point in comic books and graphic novels, it’s an evolutionary explosion.”

“As you flow through the story, the panels jump out. It takes comics to a whole new level. Readers get that extra satisfaction by realising that comics can be environmentally-friendly and, as a direct result, perhaps being even more enjoyable, interactive, and accessible.”

“Readers can also discuss and review each issue, resulting in Eco Comics not only being environmentally-friendly, but fan-friendly.”

“Mohawk Media and Eco Comics will continue to use the latest technologies to help minimise the impact of print comic production on the environment, while simultaneously striving to bring the highest quality entertainment to the reader.”

Eco Comics titles are available now on Graphicly, including a free preview comic. More titles are set to be announced.

News bite

Very exciting times here at Mohawk Media.

Added to the recent launch of ECO COMICS, we are conversing with not one, but two, literal comic book art legends.

The art from legend #1 is now beginning to come in, and looks stunning.

We’re still in the deep discussion stage with legend #2, so there’s a little way to go yet. But you know they don’t get much bigger when they’re also working with “The Man” himself! ‘Nuff said!

Eco Comics

Reports on ECO COMICS are beginning to appear in various press and media, including in high-profile news outlets such as Examiner, Art Daily, and Digital Spy, to name a few.

One or two people seem to have got the wrong end of the stick, believing that Mohawk Media is crediting itself as creating the concept of digital comics. Not so. So to help clear things up, we’ll hand over to Examiner.

‘GROUNDBREAKING’ PAPERLESS ECO COMICS ANNOUNCED BY MOHAWK MEDIA

British publisher Mohawk Media has today announced Eco Comics, a range of environmentally-friendly, paperless comic books.

The first digital comic book from the Eco Comics range available now to download or view online is Heroic High, an adventure set on an island superhero community, written by Chris Bunting and drawn by Kit Wallis.

Editor Stuart Buckley says: “Paper used in the production of comic books can have a damaging effect on the environment, and paying perhaps the biggest price is the tiger, whose habitat this threatens.

“As for sustainable forestry, world-leading environmental organisations have criticised its weak regard for social and ecological issues.

“We believe these downloadable, paperless comics are groundbreaking, having been deliberately designed to have a minimal carbon footprint.

“The added bonuses for the reader are lower cover prices for the same level of quality entertainment, while knowing that they’re being eco-friendly.”

To download Eco Comics go to http://www.mohawkmedia.co.uk/ecocomics. Following a quick payment system, you can download or view the comics online in various formats, including a page-flip format. PDFs are also available and can be downloaded to iPad.

Buckley continues: “Buying Eco Comics only takes minutes. It’s much faster and easier than going to a comic book store! We hope Eco Comics is the start of an evolution, taking advantage of the latest technologies to help minimise the impact of comic production on the environment.”

Eco Comics are available from http://www.mohawkmedia.co.uk/ecocomics.

Heroic High is a 25-page paperless comic book, available now at $1.95.

The Tough gets going!

Publisher Mohawk Media has today released a teaser image following its acquisition of the license to produce original adventures of Tough Guy.

Tough Guy, the British publisher’s first title since the top-selling official Mr. T graphic novels, is written by Chris Bunting (Mr. T; Action Man) and illustrated by Steve Beckett (Beano Annual; General Jumbo).

Bunting describes Tough Guy as a “real throwback action hero, a punch in the eye of two major opponents: terrorism and rampant political correctness. He’s A-Team meets James Bond and Indiana Jones, with the hard edge of Dirty Harry.”

Bunting continues: “Boys, both young and middle-aged, are bound to identity with Tough Guy, as he’s anything but yet another bland, demasculinised hero.”

Further details are due to be announced by Mohawk Media soon.
